In a significant step toward localization, Reddit has launched an AI-powered translation feature designed to bridge the language gap for millions of users in India. Currently supporting Hindi, the tool will soon include Bengali, catering to the two most widely spoken languages in the country after English.
Reddit aims to make its platform more inclusive by enabling users to access global content in their preferred local language. The translation functionality is based on advanced machine learning models that automatically detect and convert post content and comments into Hindi. This is part of Reddit's larger strategy to tap into India’s vast user base, many of whom prefer browsing content in their native tongue.

The feature is being introduced in phases, initially targeting mobile app users with web support expected later. Reddit also noted that the system will continue learning and improving as more users engage with the translations, helping ensure better contextual understanding and accuracy over time.
This development aligns with the ongoing trend of digital regionalization in India, where platforms like YouTube, Meta, and Twitter have already integrated local-language tools to grow their regional user base.
